अथर्ववेद - काण्ड 6/ सूक्त 89/ मन्त्र 1
इ॒दं यत्प्रे॒ण्यः शिरो॑ द॒त्तं सोमे॑न॒ वृष्ण्य॑म्। ततः॒ परि॒ प्रजा॑तेन॒ हार्दिं॑ ते शोचयामसि ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठइ॒दम् । यत् ।प्रे॒ण्य: । शिर॑: । द॒त्तम् । सोम॑न । वृष्ण्य॑म् । तत॑: । परि॑ । प्रऽजा॑तेन । हार्दि॑म् । ते॒ । शो॒च॒या॒म॒सि॒ ॥८९.१॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
इदं यत्प्रेण्यः शिरो दत्तं सोमेन वृष्ण्यम्। ततः परि प्रजातेन हार्दिं ते शोचयामसि ॥

विषय - शत्रु को जीतने का उपदेश।
पदार्थ -
(प्रेण्यः=प्रेण्याः) तृप्त करनेवाली ओषधि का (यत्) जो (इदम्) यह (शिरः) मस्तकबल और (सोमेन) सब के उत्पन्न करनेवाले परमेश्वर करके (दत्तम्) दिया हुआ (वृष्ण्यम्) जो वीरत्व है। (ततः) उस से (परि) सब प्रकार (प्रजातेन) उत्पन्न हुए [साहस] से (ते) तेरी (हार्दिम्) हार्दिक शक्ति को (शोचयामसि) हम शोक में डालते हैं ॥१॥
भावार्थ - मनुष्य सोमलता आदि उत्तम ओषधियों के सेवन से और परमेश्वर के दिये बल से शत्रुओं को पीड़ित करें ॥१॥
टिप्पणी -
१−(इदम्) शरीरस्थम् (यत्) (प्रेण्यः) वीज्याज्वरिभ्यो निः। उ० ४।४८। इति प्रीङ् प्रीतौ, वा प्रीञ् तर्पणे कान्तौ च−नि, वा ङीप् छान्दसो ह्रस्वः। प्रेण्याः। तर्पयित्र्याः सोमलताद्योषध्याः (शिरः) शिरोबलम् (दत्तम्) (सोमेन) सर्वोत्पादकेन परमेश्वरेण (वृष्ण्यम्) अ० ४।४।४। वीरत्वेन (ततः) तस्माद् बलात् (परि) सर्वतः (प्रजातेन) उत्पन्नेन साहसेन (हार्दिम्) बाह्वादिभ्यश्च। पा० ४।१।९६। इति हृद्−इञ्। हार्दिकां शक्तिम् (ते) तव हे शत्रो (शोचयामसि) शोचयामः सन्तापयामः ॥

Meaning -
O Rudra, spirit of health and love of life, with this top energy and excitement given by the generous and exuberant soma, and by the vigour and enthusiasm created thereby, we kindle and brighten up your spirit in the heart for the love of lustrous living. (This is a Priti Samjanana Sukta, i.e., the hymn for the creation of love for life and living. This mantra, therefore, may be interpreted as the key to stir up the heart from a state of depression, and soma may be interpreted either as the soma herb and its juice or as the rejuvenating peace arising from meditation. Swami Dayanand interprets Rudra as ‘that which saves from illness’, which can be the physician, a herb, pranic energy raised, or the ultimate saviour God.)
