तृष्टि॑के॒ तृष्ट॑वन्दन॒ उद॒मूं छि॑न्धि तृष्टिके। यथा॑ कृ॒तद्वि॒ष्टासो॒ऽमुष्मै॑ शे॒प्याव॑ते ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठतृष्टि॑के । तृष्ट॑ऽवन्दने । उत् । अ॒मूम् । छि॒न्धि॒ । तृ॒ष्टि॒के॒ । यथा॑ । कृ॒तऽद्वि॑ष्टा । अस॑: । अ॒मुष्मै॑ । शे॒प्याऽव॑ते ॥११८.१॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
तृष्टिके तृष्टवन्दन उदमूं छिन्धि तृष्टिके। यथा कृतद्विष्टासोऽमुष्मै शेप्यावते ॥

विषय - तृष्णा त्याग का उपदेश।
पदार्थ -
(तृषिके) हे कुत्सित तृष्णा ! (तृष्टवन्दने) हे लोलुपता की लता रूपा ! तू (अमूम्) पीड़ा को (उत् छिन्धि) काट डाल, (तृष्टिके) हे लोभ में टिकनेवाली ! तू (यथा) जिससे (अमुष्मै) उस (शेप्यावते) शक्तिमान् पुरुष के लिये (कृतद्विष्टा) द्वेषनाशिनी (असः) होवे [वैसा किया जावे] ॥१॥
भावार्थ - मनुष्य पीड़ादायिनी तृष्णा को छोड़कर ईर्ष्या-द्वेष नाश करने में समर्थ होवें ॥१॥
टिप्पणी -
१−(तृष्टिके) ञितृषा पिपासायाम्-क्त। कुत्सिते। पा० ५।३।७४। इति क प्रत्ययः। हे कुत्सिततृष्णे (तृष्टवन्दने) वदि अभिवादनस्तुत्योः-युच्, टाप्। तृष्टस्य लोलुपताया लतारूपे (उत्) उत्कर्षेण (अमूम्) कृषिचमितनि० उ० १।८०। अम रोगे पीडने-ऊ प्रत्ययः स्त्रियाम्। पीडाम् (छिन्धि) भिन्द्धि (तृष्टिके) ञितृषा-क्विप्+टिक गतौ-क। तृषि लोभे टेकते गच्छति या सा तत्सम्बुद्धौ (यथा) येन प्रकारेण, तथा क्रियतामिति शेषः (कृतद्विष्टा) कृ हिंसायाम्-क्त। कृतं नाशितम् द्विष्टं द्वेषणं यया सा (असः) भवेः (अमुष्मै) प्रसिद्धाय (शेप्यावते) शेपो बलम्, स्वार्थे-यत्, टाप्। शक्तिमते पुरुषाय ॥

Meaning -
O Desire, O Desire for desire itself, loved and adored by victims of the love of greed, be uprooted and away, separate so that you become averted for the vigorous man of yoga in the state of renunciation. (Reference may be made to Taittirya Upanishad, 1, 10: “Aham vrkshasya reriva, I cut off the root of Desire and Attachment,” and to Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, 1, 15: “The awareness of one’s self-mastery over and above the objects of desire seen or heard, that is Vairagya, Detachment,” also to Mundakopanishad, 3, 2, 4 which underscores the virile vigour of the man in pursuit of self-realisation through grace after the attainment of detachment.)
