यजुर्वेद - अध्याय 30/ मन्त्र 1
देव॑ सवितः॒ प्र सु॑व य॒ज्ञं प्र सु॑व य॒ज्ञप॑तिं॒ भगा॑य।दि॒व्यो ग॑न्ध॒र्वः॑ के॑त॒पू केतं॑ नः पुनातु वा॒चस्पति॒र्वाचं॑ नः स्वदतु॥१॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठदेव॑। स॒वि॒त॒रिति॑ सवितः। प्र। सु॒व॒। य॒ज्ञम्। प्र। सु॒व॒। य॒ज्ञप॑तिमिति॑ य॒ज्ञऽप॑तिम्। भगा॑य। दि॒व्यः। ग॒न्ध॒र्वः। के॒त॒पूरिति॑ केत॒ऽपूः। केत॑म्। नः॒। पु॒ना॒तु॒। वा॒चः। पतिः॑। वाच॑म्। नः॒। स्व॒द॒तु॒ ॥१ ॥

देव सवितः प्रसुव यज्ञम्प्र सुव यज्ञपतिम्भगाय । दिव्यो गन्धर्वः केतुपूः केतन्नः पुनातु वाचस्पतिर्वाजन्नः स्वदतु ॥

Meaning -
O Divine God, create for wealth and supremacy, the king, who is glorious, the protector of the Earth, the purifier of knowledge, the cleanser of our wisdom, the master of speech, who renders our speech sweet, smooth, mild and lovely. Make his rule successful.

Western scholars like Griffith, Colefcrooke, Weber, Wilson, Muir, Oldenberg, and Max Muller consider this and the next chapter meant for human sacrifice. This is an erroneous idea. Just as Ashvamedha does not mean Horse sacrifice, but the Improvement of land for growing more food, so Puru-hmedha does not mean human sacrifice, but the perfection of man for spiritual and worldly advancement. This interpretation put upon these two words by Rishi Dayananda is highly logical and rational. Tis pity the western scholars, following Mahidhar and Sayana, have miserably failed to understand the true purport of these words.
