अश्म॑न्वती रीयते॒ सꣳर॑भध्व॒मुत्ति॑ष्ठत॒ प्र त॑रता सखायः।अत्रा॑ जही॒मोऽशि॑वा॒ येऽ अस॑ञ्छि॒वान्व॒यमुत्त॑रेमा॒भि वाजा॑न्॥१०॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठअश्म॑न्व॒तीत्यश्म॑न्ऽवती। री॒य॒ते॒। सम्। र॒भ॒ध्व॒म्। उत्। ति॒ष्ठ॒त॒। प्र। त॒र॒त॒। स॒खा॒यः॒ ॥अत्र॑। ज॒ही॒मः॒। अशि॑वाः। ये। अस॑न्। शि॒वान्। व॒यम्। उत्। त॒रे॒म॒। अ॒भि। वाजा॑न् ॥१० ॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
अश्मन्वती रीयते सँ रभध्वमुत्तिष्ठत प्र तरता सखायः । अत्र जहीमो शिवा येऽअसञ्छिवान्वयमुत्तरेमाभि वाजान् ॥

अश्मन्वतीत्यश्मन्ऽवती। रीयते। सम्। रभध्वम्। उत्। तिष्ठत। प्र। तरत। सखायः॥अत्र। जहीमः। अशिवाः। ये। असन्। शिवान्। वयम्। उत्। तरेम। अभि। वाजान्॥१०॥
Translation -
The rocky river is flowing fast. Gird up yourselves, O friends; get up and swim across it. Here we quit whatever is evil and may we swim across to the auspicious treasures. (1)
Notes -
Griffith suggests an interesting explanation: The origi nal verse of Rv X. 53. 8 contains words of encouragement to the bearers who with the funeral procession are crossing a stream. Here the natural stream is represented by a ditch cut for the purpose, filled with water and covered with aquatic plants and kusā grass, into which stones are cast. The original verse is better explained in the context of the stream of life, which one has to cross and reach the yonder bank. Asmanvatī, (a stream) full of rocks. Asivā ye asan, whatever are evil. Sivan vājän, auspicious treasures.
