नैनं॑ घ्नन्ति पर्या॒यिणो॒ न स॒न्नाँ अव॑ गछति। अ॒ग्नेर्यः क्ष॒त्रियो॑ वि॒द्वान्नाम॑ गृ॒ह्णात्यायु॑षे ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठन । ए॒न॒म् । घ्न॒न्ति॒ । प॒रि॒ऽआयिन॑: । न । स॒न्नान् । अव॑ । ग॒च्छ॒ति॒ । अ॒ग्ने: । य: । क्ष॒त्रिय॑: । वि॒द्वान् । नाम॑ । गृ॒ह्णाति॑ । आयु॑षे ॥७६.४॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
नैनं घ्नन्ति पर्यायिणो न सन्नाँ अव गछति। अग्नेर्यः क्षत्रियो विद्वान्नाम गृह्णात्यायुषे ॥

Translation -
To the Kshatriya who knowing the property of this fire uses it for the length of life neither slay the men who encompass him and nor he himself goes near the foes who lurk for him. [N.B. According to Gopatha Brahmana (Second Part II-3) Santapana agni is the Brahmans whose all-sacraments beginning with penetration ceremony and ending with sacred threads agnihotra etc. are well performed. In this sense the hymn gives the lesson that the Kshatriya varna responsible for the administration defense etc. of the country should always act according to the advice of the Brahmana Verna. Brahmana in society and state is the symbol of mind while Kshatriya of defense. Without keeping the power and defense under mind no nation can flourish.]
