यजुर्वेद - अध्याय 31/ मन्त्र 15
स॒प्तास्या॑सन् परि॒धय॒स्त्रिः स॒प्त स॒मिधः॑ कृ॒ताः।दे॒वा यद्य॒ज्ञं॑ त॑न्वा॒नाऽअब॑ध्न॒न् पुरु॑षं प॒शुम्॥१५॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठस॒प्त। अ॒स्य॒। आ॒स॒न्। प॒रि॒धय॒। इति॑ परि॒ऽधयः॑। त्रिः। स॒प्त। स॒मिध॒ इति॑ स॒म्ऽइधः॑। कृ॒ताः ॥ दे॒वाः। यत्। य॒ज्ञम्। त॒न्वा॒नाः। अब॑ध्नन्। पुरु॑षम्। प॒शुम् ॥१५ ॥

सप्तास्यासन्परिधयस्त्रिः सप्त समिधः कृताः । देवा यद्यज्ञन्तन्वानाऽअबध्नन्पुरुषम्पशुम् ॥

सप्त। अस्य। आसन्। परिधय। इति परिऽधयः। त्रिः। सप्त। समिध इति सम्ऽइधः। कृताः॥ देवाः। यत्। यज्ञम्। तन्वानाः। अबध्नन्। पुरुषम्। पशुम्॥१५॥
Translation -
Seven are the enclosing pillars and thrice-seven the pieces of fire-wood, when the enlightened ones preparing for the sacrifice, tie up the Cosmic Man as an offering. (1)
Notes -
Paridhayaḥ, enclosing sticks or pillars for the protec tion of the sacrifice; six shallow trenches dug round the fire and the seventh an imaginary one round the sun. According to Sāyaṇa, seven sacred metres used in the Vedas. Samidhaḥ, kindling fire-wood. Twenty one kindling woods are: Twelve months, five seasons, three worlds of earth, mid space, and heaven, and the sun (Mahidhara). Not a very convinc ing idea.
