अथर्ववेद - काण्ड 1/ सूक्त 28/ मन्त्र 2
प्रति॑ दह यातु॒धाना॒न्प्रति॑ देव किमी॒दिनः॑। प्र॒तीचीः॑ कृष्णवर्तने॒ सं द॑ह यातुधा॒न्यः॑ ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठप्रति॑ । द॒ह॒ । या॒तु॒ऽधाना॑न् । प्रति॑ । दे॒व॒ । कि॒मी॒दिन॑: । प्र॒तीची॑: । कृ॒ष्ण॒ऽव॒र्त॒ने॒ । सम् । द॒ह॒ । या॒तु॒ऽधा॒न्य: ॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
प्रति दह यातुधानान्प्रति देव किमीदिनः। प्रतीचीः कृष्णवर्तने सं दह यातुधान्यः ॥

Translation -
Consume the plunderers, O Commander, meet the greedy slanderers with thy flame. Burn up the piratical adventurers as they face thee, thou whose path is black.
Footnote -
‘Piratical adventurers’ refers to the army of the enemy ‘whose path is black’ means the path of the commander is black, as it is filled with the smoke emitted by the warlike instruments discharged by him.
