सूक्तम् - पितृमेध सूक्त
पुन॑र्देहिवनस्पते॒ य ए॒ष निहि॑त॒स्त्वयि॑। यथा॑ य॒मस्य॒ साद॑न॒ आसा॑तै वि॒दथा॒ वद॑न्॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठपुन॑: । दे॒हि॒ । व॒न॒स्प॒ते॒ । य: । ए॒ष: । निऽहि॑त: । त्वयि॑ । यथा॑ । य॒मस्य॑ । सद॑ने । आसा॑तै । वि॒दथा॑ । वद॑न् ॥३.७०॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
पुनर्देहिवनस्पते य एष निहितस्त्वयि। यथा यमस्य सादन आसातै विदथा वदन्॥

Translation -
O God, send back on Earth, this emancipated soul dwelling in Thee, so that it may remain in this world, preaching knowledge to ordinary mortals, remaining under Thy shelter!
Footnote -
This verse preaches the return of soul to the Earth. The period of salvation cannot be unlimited, as the fruit of the efforts of a soul with limited powers cannot be unlimited. If there be no return from salvation, a time may come when all souls would be emancipated, and the world-come to a standstill. Maharshi Dayanand has fully dilated upon this subject in the Satyarth Prakash. Whitney interprets the verse as putting the corpse in the hollow of a tree and Sayana as burying the bones of a dead man beneath a tree. Both the explanations are irrational and unacceptable.
