अथर्ववेद - काण्ड 19/ सूक्त 45/ मन्त्र 1
ऋ॒णादृ॒णमि॑व॒ सं न॑यन् कृ॒त्यां कृ॑त्या॒कृतो॑ गृ॒हम्। चक्षु॑र्मन्त्रस्य दु॒र्हार्दः॑ पृ॒ष्टीरपि॑ शृणाञ्जन ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठऋ॒णात्। ऋ॒णम्ऽइ॑व। स॒म्ऽनय॑न्। कृ॒त्याम्। कृ॒त्या॒ऽकृतः॑। गृ॒हम्। चक्षुः॑ऽमन्त्रस्य। दुः॒ऽहार्दः॑। पृ॒ष्टीः। अपि॑। शृ॒ण॒। आ॒ऽअ॒ञ्ज॒न॒ ॥४५.१॥

ऋणादृणमिव सं नयन् कृत्यां कृत्याकृतो गृहम्। चक्षुर्मन्त्रस्य दुर्हार्दः पृष्टीरपि शृणाञ्जन ॥

Translation -
O Anjana, just as the debt is fully paid back to the creditor and the secret missible is repulsed to the house of the sender thereof, similarly dost thou break the back-bones of the wicked-hearted person, who, by sheer pointing of his eyes, orders us to be assailed by missiles.

Herein by Anjana, it is not any ointment or salve that is meant, but it seems to me some secret weapon of dark rays, emitted from some chemicals referred to in the last verse of the previous sukta, having the effect of cracking the body of the enemy as well as causing unconsciousness, spoken of in the second verse.
