अथर्ववेद - काण्ड 12/ सूक्त 4/ मन्त्र 23
य ए॒वं वि॒दुषे॑ऽद॒त्त्वाथा॒न्येभ्यो॒ दद॑द्व॒शाम्। दु॒र्गा तस्मा॑ अधि॒ष्ठाने॑ पृथि॒वी स॒हदे॑वता ॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठय: । ए॒वम् । वि॒दुषे॑ । अद॑त्त्वा । अथ॑ । अ॒न्येभ्य॑: । दद॑त् । व॒शाम् । दु॒:ऽगा । तस्मै॑ । अ॒धि॒ऽस्थाने॑ । पृ॒थि॒वी । स॒हऽदे॑वता ॥४.२३॥
स्वर रहित मन्त्र
य एवं विदुषेऽदत्त्वाथान्येभ्यो ददद्वशाम्। दुर्गा तस्मा अधिष्ठाने पृथिवी सहदेवता ॥

Translation -
Whoso imparts this beautiful Vedic knowledge not to the learned but to the ignorant, Earth, with the sages, is hard for him to win and rest upon.
Footnote -
He who gives Vedic knowledge not to the deserving, but to the undeserving, can occupy no position of influence in the world, nor can he command respect from the learned.
