यजुर्वेद - अध्याय 3/ मन्त्र 49
पू॒र्णा द॑र्वि॒ परा॑ पत॒ सुपू॑र्णा॒ पुन॒राप॑त। व॒स्नेव॒ वि॒क्री॑णावहा॒ऽइ॒षमूर्ज॑ꣳ शतक्रतो॥४९॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठपू॒र्णा। द॒र्वि॒। परा॑। प॒त॒। सुपू॒र्णेति॒ सुऽपूर्णा। पुनः॑। आ। प॒त॒। वस्नेवेति॑ व॒स्नाऽइ॑व। वि। क्री॒णा॒व॒है॒। इष॑म्। ऊर्ज॑म्। श॒त॒क्र॒तो॒ऽइति॑ शतऽक्रतो ॥४९॥

पूर्णा दर्वि परा पत सुपूर्णा पुनरा पत । वस्नेव वि क्रीणावहा इषमूर्जँ शतक्रतो ॥

पूर्णा। दर्वि। परा। पत। सुपूर्णेति सुऽपूर्णा। पुनः। आ। पत। वस्नेवेति वस्नाऽइव। वि। क्रीणावहै। इषम्। ऊर्जम्। शतक्रतोऽइति शतऽक्रतो॥४९॥
Meaning -
The oblation full of cooked articles put into the fire, goes up to the sky. and returns there from full of rain. O God, Let us twain, like traders, barter our food and strength.

When we perform Homa, the oblation put into the fire, being rarefied goes up to the sky, wherefrom, it comes back in the shape of rain. We two, the worshipper who performs the Yajna, and the priest who officiates, barter our food and strength giving articles, i. e. , we put these into the fire, and get. in return, rain, which gives us happiness, ripens our harvest of grain and helps the growth of medicinal herbs. This process of giving and taking has been described as a kind of bartering, as does a trader who gives articles, and takes cash in return.
