रक्षा के लिये प्रयत्न का उपदेश।

पदार्थ

(मृत्युः) मृत्यु (प्रजानाम्) उत्पन्न प्राणियों का (अधिपतिः) अधिष्ठाता है (सः) वह... म० १ ॥१३॥

भावार्थ

मनुष्य मृत्यु की प्रबलता पर ध्यान देकर सब शुभ काम शीघ्र सिद्ध करें ॥१३॥

विषय

'प्रजानाम् अधिपतिः' मृत्युः

पदार्थ

१. (मृत्युः) = मृत्यु (प्रजानाम् अधिपति:) = सब प्रजाओं का स्वामी है। कोई भी व्यक्ति इस मृत्यु से बच नहीं सकता। २. मैं सदा इस मृत्यु का स्मरण करूँ। यह मृत्यु-स्मरण मुझे विषयासक्ति से बचाता है व मार्ग-भ्रष्ट नहीं होने देता। इसप्रकार (स:) = वह मृत्यु (मा) = मुझे (अवतु) = रक्षित करे मार्ग-भ्रष्ट होने से बचाए। मैं सदा उत्तम कर्मों में प्रवृत्त रहूँ। शेष पूर्ववत्।

भावार्थ

मृत्यु-स्मरण से मार्ग-भ्रष्ट न होता हुआ मैं सदा सत्पथ का आक्रमण करूँ।

भाषार्थ

(मृत्युः प्रजानाम् अधिपतिः) मृत्यु प्रजाओं का अधिपति है, (सः मा अवतु) वह मेरी रक्षा करे। (अस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि) इस वेदज्ञान की प्राप्ति में, (अस्मिन् कर्मणि) इस वैदिक कर्म में, (अस्याम् पुरोधायाम्) इस संमुख-स्थापित अभिलाषा की पूर्ति में, (अस्याम् प्रतिष्ठायाम् ) इस दृढ़ स्थिति में, (अस्याम्, चित्त्याम्) इस स्मृतिशक्ति में, (अस्याम् आकूत्याम् ) इस संकल्प में, (अस्याम् आशिष्यस्याम्) इस आशा की पूर्ति में, (देवहूत्याम्) दिव्यगुणों या विद्वानों के आह्वान में, (स्वाहा) यह उत्तम कथन हुआ है।

परमेश्वर से धर्म-कार्य में रक्षा की प्रार्थना।

भावार्थ

(मृत्युः) मारण-धर्मा मृत्यु, मौत ही (प्रजानाम्) जिस प्रकार समस्त उत्पन्न होने वाली प्रजाओं का (अधि-पतिः) स्वामी है उसी प्रकार वह प्रभु सबका अन्तकारी होने से सबका स्वामी है (सः) वह उक्त शुभ कामों में हमारी रक्षा करे।

Meaning

Mrtyu, divine law of life and death, is the ruling power of the living, the people. May that power divine protect and promote me in this divine scheme of life and work, in this work I am doing, in this priestly task, in this prestigious position, in this planned project, in this resolution, in this blessed work, and in this yajnic life dedicated to the divinities. This is the voice of the soul in earnest.

Translation

Death (Mrtyu) is the lord of creatures; may he favour me in this prayer, in this rite,in this priestly representation, in this firm-standing, in this intent (or idea), in this design, in this benediction, and in this invocation of the bounties of Nature. Svaha.

Translation

Mrityuh, the time is the master-power of all born-objects, let it protect me in this attainment of knowledge, in this act, in this my sacerdotal undertaking, in this my act of life’s stability, in this intention, in this my deliberate activity, in this performance expectation and prosperity and in this my activity of yajna and science. Whatever uttered here in is correct.

Translation

Just as Death is the lord of all living creatures, so God is the Lord of all mortals. May He preserve me, in this my study of the Vedas, in this duty of mine, in this my sacerdotal charge, in this noble performance, in this meditation, in this my resolve and determination, in this assembly of the learned. May this noble prayer of mine be fulfilled.
