रक्षा के लिये प्रयत्न का उपदेश।

पदार्थ

(सोमः) ऐश्वर्य का कारण सोमलता (वीरुधाम्) उगनेवाली जड़ी बूटियों का (अधिपतिः) अधिष्ठाता है, (सः) वह (मा) मुझे (अवतु) बचावे,... म० १ ॥७॥

भावार्थ

मनुष्य उत्तम औषधियों के सेवन से यथावत् रक्षा करे ॥७॥

पदार्थ

१. गतमन्त्र में वर्णित प्राणसाधना से शरीर में सुरक्षित हुआ-हुआ (सोमः) = वीर्य (वीरुधाम्) = सब विरोहणों-उन्नतियों का (अधिपतिः) = स्वामी है। सोम-रक्षण से ही शरीर के रोग, मन के राग द्वेष व बुद्धि की कुण्ठता' दूर होती हैं। २. शरीर में सुरक्षित (सः) = वह सोम (मा अवतु) = मेरा रक्षण करे। हम सोम का रक्षण करते हैं, सोम हमारा रक्षण करता है। सोम से सुरक्षित मैं ज्ञान आदि की प्राप्ति में प्रवृत्त होऊँ। शेष पूर्ववत्।

भावार्थ

प्राणसाधना द्वारा में सोम का शरीर में रक्षण करूँ।

भाषार्थ

(सोमः वीरुधाम् अधिपतिः) सोम [औपध] विरोहणशील लता-वनस्पतियों का अधिपति है, (स मा अवतु) वह मेरी रक्षा करे। (अस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि) इस वेदज्ञान की प्राप्ति में, (अस्मिन् कर्मणि) इस वैदिक कर्म में, (अस्याम् पुरोधायाम्) इस संमुख-स्थापित अभिलाषा की पूर्ति में, (अस्याम् प्रतिष्ठायाम् ) इस दृढ़ स्थिति में, (अस्याम्, चित्त्याम्) इस स्मृतिशक्ति में, (अस्याम् आकूत्याम् ) इस संकल्प में, (अस्याम् आशिष्यस्याम्) इस आशा की पूर्ति में, (देवहूत्याम्) दिव्यगुणों या विद्वानों के आह्वान में, (स्वाहा) यह उत्तम कथन हुआ है।

विषय

परमेश्वर से धर्म-कार्य में रक्षा की प्रार्थना।

भावार्थ

(सोमः) सब का उत्पादक, सौम्यगुण से युक्त औषधि-रस सोमलता जिस प्रकार सब से श्रेष्ठ होने से (वीरुधाम्) नाना प्रकार से उगने वाली लताओं का (अधि-पतिः) पालक है उसी प्रकार सौम्यगुण युक्त राजा नाना प्रकार से फलने फूलने वाली प्रजाओं का अधिपति है। (सः) वह उक्त शुभ कार्यों में (मा अवतु) मेरी रक्षा करे।

Self-Protection, Brahma Karma

Meaning

Soma, spirit of cosmic vitality, is the life and presiding power of herbs and trees. May soma protect and promote me in this spiritual pursuit of divinity, in this programme, in this holy undertaking, in this prestigious position, in this plan, in this resolution, in this discipline and realisation of benediction, and in this yajna of the divinities. This is the inner voice of the soul in truth of thought, word and deed.

Translation

The king of medicinal herbs (Soma) is the lord of plants; may he favour me in this prayer, in this rite, in this priestly representation, in this firm standing, in this intent (or idea), in this design, in this benediction, and in this invocation of the bounties of Nature. Svaha.

Translation

Soma, the vegetative energy of the world is the master power of herbs and creepers, let it protect me in this attainment of knowledge, in this my act, in this my sacerdotal undertaking, in this my act of life’s stability, in this intention, in this my deliberate activity, in this performance expectation and prosperity and in this my activity of yajna and science. Whatever is uttered herein is correct.

Translation

Just as Soma is the lord of medicinal plants, so is God, the Lord of His subjects, may He preserve me, in this my study of the Vedas, in this duty of mine, in this my sacerdotal charge, in this noble performance, in this meditation, in this my resolve and determination, in this administration, in this assembly of the learned. May this noble prayer of mine be fulfilled.
