रक्षा के लिये प्रयत्न का उपदेश।

पदार्थ

(अवरे) पिछले काल में वर्तमान (ते) वे (तताः=ताताः) विस्तार करनेवाले पूज्य पुरुष (मा) मुझे (अवन्तु) बचावें... म० १ ॥१६॥

भावार्थ

मनुष्य वर्तमान काल के महापुरुषों के समान कार्य सिद्ध करके सदा उन्नति करें ॥१६॥

पदार्थ

१. (ते) = वे (अवरे) = हमसे पिछले काल में आनेवाले (तता:) = सन्तान [तन्यते, अथवा तनोति कुलम्] भी (मा अवन्तु) = मेरी रक्षा करें। 'मेरे पथभ्रंश का सन्तानों पर दुष्प्रभाव पड़ेगा तब वे मेरा क्या आदर करेंगी?' यह विचार ही हमें पथभ्रष्ट होने से रक्षित करता है। २. एवं, इन सूनुओं [Sons] से भी उत्तम प्रेरणा प्राप्त करके [ प्रेरणे] हम उत्तम मार्ग पर ही आगे बढ़ें। शेष पूर्ववत्।

भावार्थ

पुत्र भी हमें जीवन की उत्तमता के लिए प्रेरणा देनेवाले हों।

भाषार्थ

(तताः) जो तात कहलाने योग्य (अवरे) छोटी आयु के पितर हैं, (ते मा अवन्तु) वे मेरी रक्षा करें। (अस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि) इस वेदज्ञान की प्राप्ति में, (अस्मिन् कर्मणि) इस वैदिक कर्म में, (अस्याम् पुरोधायाम्) इस संमुख-स्थापित अभिलाषा की पूर्ति में, (अस्याम् प्रतिष्ठायाम् ) इस दृढ़ स्थिति में, (अस्याम्, चित्त्याम्) इस स्मृतिशक्ति में, (अस्याम् आकूत्याम् ) इस संकल्प में, (अस्याम् आशिष्यस्याम्) इस आशा की पूर्ति में, (देवहूत्याम्) दिव्यगुणों या विद्वानों के आह्वान में, (स्वाहा) यह उत्तम कथन हुआ है।

परमेश्वर से धर्म-कार्य में रक्षा की प्रार्थना।

भावार्थ

(तताः) पूर्व पुरुषों की सन्तानें (अवरे) जो बाद में या उनसे उतर कर हैं (ते) वे भी मेरी उक्त शुभ कार्यों में रक्षा करें।

Self-Protection, Brahma Karma

Meaning

May the parental powers of closer time protect and promote me in this divine life, in this work I am doing, in this priestlike task of life, in this noble settled position, in this intelligent way of living, in this life of faith and resolution, in this state of benediction, and in this yajnic course of life dedicated to divinities. This is the earnest prayer from the depth of the heart.

Translation

Fathers (tatah) are junior (avare); may they favour me in this prayer, in this rite, in this priestly representation, in this firmstanding, in this intent (or idea), in this design, in this benediction, and in this invocation of the bounties of Nature. Svaha.

Translation

Tata, the men of practice and profession who are near to us, protect me in this attainment of knowledge, in this my act, in this my sacerdotal undertaking, in this my act of life's stability, in this intention, in this my deliberate activity, in this performance expectation and prosperity and in this my activity of yajna and science. Whatever uttered herein is correct.

Translation

May my venerable forefathers preserve me, in this my study of the Vedas, in this duty of mine, in this my sacerdotal charge, in this noble performance, in this meditation, in this my resolve and determination, in this administration, in this assembly of the learned. May this noble prayer of mine be fulfilled.
