रक्षा के लिये प्रयत्न का उपदेश।

पदार्थ

(द्यावापृथिवी) सूर्य और पृथिवी (दातॄणाम्) दाताओं की (अधिपत्नी) अधिष्ठात्री हैं, (ते) वे दोनों (मा) मुझे (अवताम्) बचावे, म० १ ॥३॥

भावार्थ

सूर्य द्वारा वृष्टि और प्रकाश पृथिवी में प्रविष्ट होकर सब पदार्थ उत्पन्न करते हैं, मनुष्य उन पदार्थों से प्रयत्नपूर्वक अपना पालन करें ॥३॥

विषय

'दातणाम् अधिपत्नी' द्यावापृथिवी

पदार्थ

(द्यावापृथिवी) = धुलोक व पृथिवीलोक (दातृणाम् अधिपत्नी) = दाताओं के अधिपति हैं।सबसे मुख्य दाता ये द्यावापृथिवी ही हैं। धुलोक पिता है तो पृथिवीलोक  माता। ये हम सब पुत्रों के लिए आवश्यक पदार्थों को प्राप्त कराते हैं। ये ही हमें खान-पान आदि के लिए सब वस्तुओं को सुलभ कराते हैं। २. (ते) = वे (द्यावापृथिवी मा) = मेरा (अवताम्) = रक्षण करें। ये तो हमारे पिता-माता हैं, रक्षण क्यों न करेंगे? इनसे रक्षित होकर मैं ज्ञान-प्राप्ति आदि उत्तम कर्मों में लगा रहूँ। शेष पूर्ववत्।

भाषार्थ

(द्यावापृथिवी) द्यौ तथा पृथिवी (दातृणाम्) दाताओं की (अधिपत्नी) स्वामिनी हैं, (ते) वे दोनों (मा) मेरी (अवताम्) रक्षा करें (अस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि) इस वेदज्ञान की प्राप्ति में, (अस्मिन् कर्मणि) इस वैदिक कर्म में, (अस्याम् पुरोधायाम्) इस संमुख-स्थापित अभिलाषा की पूर्ति में, (अस्याम् प्रतिष्ठायाम् ) इस दृढ़ स्थिति में, (अस्याम्, चित्त्याम्) इस स्मृतिशक्ति में, (अस्याम् आकूत्याम् ) इस संकल्प में, (अस्याम् आशिष्यस्याम्) इस आशा की पूर्ति में, (देवहूत्याम्) दिव्यगुणों या विद्वानों के आह्वान में, (स्वाहा) यह उत्तम कथन हुआ है।

विषय

परमेश्वर से धर्म-कार्य में रक्षा की प्रार्थना।

भावार्थ

(दातॄणां) दानशील पुरुषों के (अधिपत्नी) अधिपति, मुख्यदाता (द्यावापृथिवी) ज़मीन और आसमान या सूर्य और पृथिवी दोनों (माम्) मुझे (अस्मिन् ब्रह्माणि इत्यादि) इस ब्रह्मोपासना, वेदाध्ययन आदि पूर्वोक्त शुभ कार्यों में (अवताम्) रक्षा करें।

Subject

Self-Protection, Brahma Karma

Meaning

May earth and heaven, presiding protectors of the generous, guide and promote me in this divine prayer and pursuit, in this particular act, in this pious undertaking, in this settled position of responsibility, in this plan, in this resolution, in this discipline and benediction, and in this yajna in honour of the divinities. This is the voice of the soul’s prayer.

Translation

Heaven and earth (dyàvà-prthivi) are the queens of donors; may they two favour me in this prayer, in this rite, in this priestly representation, in this firm standing, in this intent (or idea), in this design, in this benediction, and in this invocation of the bounties of Nature. Svaha.

Translation

The Heaven and the earth the master-powers of the bounteous activities. let both of them protect me in this my attainment of knowledge, in this my act, in this my sacerdotal undertaking, in this my act of life’s stability, in this intention, in this my deliberate activity, in this performance expectation and prosperity and in this my activity of yajna and science. Whatever is uttered herein is correct.

Translation

May Heaven and Earth, the queens of bounties protect me, in this my study of the Vedas, in this duty of mine, in this my sacerdotal charge, in this noble performance, in this meditation, in this my resolve and determination, in this administration, in this assembly of the learned. May this noble prayer of mine be fulfilled.
