रक्षा के लिये प्रयत्न का उपदेश।

पदार्थ

(यमः) नियम (पितॄणाम्) रक्षक पुरुषों का (अधिपतिः) अधिष्ठाता है। (सः) वह (मा) मुझे (अवतु) बचावे... म० १ ॥१४॥

भावार्थ

मनुष्य नियमपूर्वक रक्षा करके यथावत् लाभ उठावें ॥१४॥

विषय

'पितृणाम् अधिपतिः' यमः

पदार्थ

१. (यमः) = नियन्त्रण में चलानेवाला आचार्य (पितृणाम् अधिपति:) = पितरों का स्वामी है। सर्वोत्तम पिता आचार्य है जो हमें धर्म-मार्ग के व्यतिक्रम से बचाता है। (सः) = वह नियन्ता आचार्य (मा अवतु) = मेरा रक्षण करे। आचार्य के गर्भ में सुरक्षित हुआ-हुआ मैं विषयों के आक्रमण से बचा रहूँ और ज्ञानादि कर्मों में प्रवृत्त रहूँ। शेष पूर्ववत्।

भावार्थ

आचार्य के नियन्त्रण में मेरे जीवन का उपक्रम हो। आचार्य द्वारा परिपक्व बुद्धि बनाया जाकर मैं संसार में पदार्पण करूँ और सदा उत्तम कार्यों में ही प्रवृत्त रहूँ।

भाषार्थ

(यमः पितृणामधिपतिः) यम पितरों का अधिपति है, (स: मा अवतु) वह मेरी रक्षा करे। (अस्मिन् ब्रह्मणि) इस वेदज्ञान की प्राप्ति में, (अस्मिन् कर्मणि) इस वैदिक कर्म में, (अस्याम् पुरोधायाम्) इस संमुख-स्थापित अभिलाषा की पूर्ति में, (अस्याम् प्रतिष्ठायाम् ) इस दृढ़ स्थिति में, (अस्याम्, चित्त्याम्) इस स्मृतिशक्ति में, (अस्याम् आकूत्याम् ) इस संकल्प में, (अस्याम् आशिष्यस्याम्) इस आशा की पूर्ति में, (देवहूत्याम्) दिव्यगुणों या विद्वानों के आह्वान में, (स्वाहा) यह उत्तम कथन हुआ है।

विषय

परमेश्वर से धर्म-कार्य में रक्षा की प्रार्थना।

भावार्थ

(यमः) सब का नियन्ता यम = ब्रह्मचारी जिस प्रकार (पितॄणाम्) पालक-प्राणों का अधिपति है या नियन्ता राजा अन्य पितृ = शासकों का अधिपति है या नियन्ता जीव पितृ = इन्द्रियों का अधिपति है या यम = सूर्य, पितृ = किरणों या ऋतुओं का स्वामी है उसी प्रकार प्रभु सब परिपालन करने वालों का भी स्वामी है। वह मेरी उक्त शुभ कार्यों में रक्षा करे।

Self-Protection, Brahma Karma

Meaning

Yama, the lord of cosmic justice, is the presiding power of the souls in the state of life death cycle. May Yama and good wishes of our forefathers and the pranic energies preserve, protect and promote me in this divine process of living, in this programme of life and learning, in this priestly task of divine service, in this prestigious state of human life, in this intelligent way of living, in this faith and resolve of honourable living, and in this blessed life on earth. This is the true voice of the heart and soul in faith.

Translation

The ordainer Lord (Yama) is the lord of elders; may he favour me in this prayer, in this rite, in this priestly representation, in this firm-standing, in this intent (or idea), in this design, in this benediction and in this invocation of the bounties of Nature. Svaha.

Translation

Yama, the sun is the master-power of seasons etc., let it protect me in this attainment of knowledge, in this my act, in this my sacerdotal undertaking, in this my act of life's stability, in this intention, in this my deliberate activity, in this performance expectation and prosperity and in this my activity of yajna and science. Whatever uttered herein is correct.

Translation

Just as a Brahmchari is the lord of breaths, or a king, the lord of officials, or soul, the lord of organs, or Sun, the lord of rays, so God is the Guardian of all guardians. May He preserve me, in this my study of theVedas, in this duty of mine, in this my sacerdotal charge, in this noble performance, in this meditation, in this my resolve and determination, in thisadministration, in this assembly of the learned. May this noble prayer of mine be fulfilled.
