Translation -
This dawn, O lightning and fire divine, though herself footless, comes before the footed sleepers, and stretching her head, she awakens people, who then utter sounds with their tongues, and passing onward, she traverses thirty steps. (1)
Notes -
Apat, पादरहिता, footless. Padvatibhyaḥ pürvagat, has arrived before those who have their feet intact. Hitvi Sirah, stretching her head; urging people to rise and get up. Jihvayā vāvadat, talking with her tongue. Carat, moving forward. Trimsat padāni akramit, has moved thirty steps; the thirty divisions ofthe Indian day and night through which Dawn passes before she reappears. Or, perhaps it refers to the thirty days of a month.
